Rare Limited Edition Mapex Vavona Burlwood snare drum
Vavona Burlwood is from a source exclusive to Mapex, it is made from the root wood of the Calafornia Redwood tree. These trees are protected, and the wood can only be harvested after one falls or dies naturally. Around 2004, Mapex were able to harvest some of this, and produced a very limited amount of snares from it.
This snare drum measures 13″ by 3 1/2″ deep
Black Panther, Deep forest series
They produced 200 standard sized 14″ x 5 1/2″ snares. I can find no record of piccolo versions online. I have been in touch with Mapex and the UK makes distributors, they have confirmed that a very limited number of these piccolo versions were made and released to a handful of the biggest mapex stockists/shops worldwide. There are certainly a lot less of these than there are the standard 14″ models.
Chrome black hardware
Die cast hoops – top hoop has some top flaking/wear to one area from rimshots – see pic
Maple shell with Vavona Burlwood outer plies – finished in an oyster green tinted lacquer
Mapex Black Panther sticker inside looks to have 04/3 which i assume would be the date of March 2004. It could possibly be 64/3, and might mean it is 3 of 64 produced…but is more likely to be the date
Original wires and reso head
New Remo coated ambassador batter head
Used – with some usual light signs of use to the hardware-see pics. the shell is in superb condition
Comes with original box, which is slightly tatty
Certainly a very rare snare drum – ideal for any Mapex enthusiast. Only a handful ever made!
